MARGARET G. BROWN "Peggy"

Margaret G. Brown, age 95, of Mount Joy, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016. "Peggy" retired in 1975 as a Home Economics teacher from the Donegal School District after 23 years of service. She was born in Wycomb, PA, on April 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Norman E. Garber and Belle K. Garber. She was a 1938 graduate of the former Mount Joy High School and Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA in 1942 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She also completed graduate work at Pennsylvania State University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. Brown, of 57 years. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara E. Duda, wife of Dr. James L., of Winchester, Virginia, and Kathleen Brown, of Tucson, Arizona, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Dr. Norman K. Garber, of Ponte Vedre, FL, and Dr. Simon K. Barber, Cary, N.C. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rachel, wife of Orval P. Lovett, and Ellen K. Garber. She will be missed by her family and her dear friend, Frank Decker. Peggy resided in Mount Joy area since early childhood. She was a member of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church in Mount Joy. She was the chairperson of the altar guild, served on the vestry and was a member of the Episcopal Church women's organization. She was a charter member of the Mount Joy Business and Professional Women organization, served on the board of the Mount Joy Historical Society, was a member of The Town Club of Lancaster and a member of American Association of School Retirees, Lancaster Chapter of P.A.S.R. and a former member of the Caper and Carousel Dance Clubs and The Meadia Heights Golf Club. Peggy and her husband enjoyed traveling after retirement. She enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, and doing needle work and was a member of the Red Rose Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America. A Memorial Service celebrating Peggy's life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 209 South Market St., Mount Joy PA on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 3 PM. Peggy's family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm. Interment will be private and held in the Mount Joy Cemetery. Refreshments will be served following the service in the undercroft of the church.
