Jane E. "Tut" Hoover

Jane E. “Tut” Hoover, 96, of Masonic Village, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Born in Rapho Township on July 27, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Menno and Lottie (Keener) Sites. Jane was the wife of the late Herbert E. Hoover who passed away on October 25, 2011. Jane was a member of Christ Church UCC in Elizabethtown for 67 years. She helped in the nursery for many years but especially enjoyed cooking many meals with her husband, Herb, for a variety of church functions. Jane was also a member of the Rheems Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Janes first job was at the Mount Joy Cotton Mill. She later worked at the Hershey Chocolate Factory and the Rheems Shoe Factory. Later in 1966, Herb and Jane bought the Tropical Treat Drive-In, locally known as “The Trop”. She enjoyed cooking at “The Trop” and her homemade soups were enjoyed by many. Jane enjoyed going to their beach house in Ocean City, MD. A lot of fond memories were made with the grandchildren at the beach. Jane loved snowmobiling with family and friends at their cabin in Potter County. She loved playing piano, organ, cards and was in a bowling league for years. Most of all spending time with her family was the joy of her life. They will especially remember her for her delicious chicken pot pie. Jane is survived by three daughters, Diane Kretzing of Elizabethtown, Dawn Nolt, wife of Joe of Elizabethtown, and Dori Heisey, wife of Dave of Mount Joy; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren with one on the way; two step grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a brother, Ray Sites, husband of Martha of Manheim; and a sister, Donna Lease, wife of Mike of Manheim. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Sites. A memorial service honoring Jane’s life will be held at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 247 S Market St, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 1 PM. Family and friends will be received at the church before the service from 12 PM to 1 PM. Interment will be private.
