James Douglas Carr

James Douglas Carr (Jimmy) 68, departed from his earthly home and joyfully spends eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He took that final step to his heavenly home on April 22, 2026 at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He leaves behind his dearly loved family and friends, yet he was gratefully anticipating the end of pain and tears and heartaches that is a part of our present life. Born in Columbia, Pennsylvania, on January 14, 1958, to the late Perry J. Gardener and Ethel I. Carr. Jimmy had two sisters, Alice and Roma, and two brothers, John and Cleve, as well as many loving friends. His memory will remain in the hearts of his many friends. Jimmy grew up in Mount Joy and graduated from Donegal High School in 1977, where he played soccer and baseball. Jimmy was a 43-year volunteer fire department volunteer, serving Fire Department Mount Joy for 28 years as Chaplin. FDMJ posted this about Jimmy: “It is with heavy hearts that the Fire Department Mount Joy announces the passing of our beloved Chaplain. James "Jimmy" Carr, who left us on April 22, 2026. Jimmy began his fire service career on September 1, 1983, when he joined Friendship Fire Company. He later served with Florin Fire Company before his membership moved to Fire Department Mount Joy on September 1, 1993, where he faithfully served for the remainder of his life. Over his 43 years in the fire service, Jimmy served as our Chaplain for 28 years— a role that suited him perfectly. He was a kind and gracious man who made it his mission to pray for the safety of every member of this department. He also gave generously of his time as Alternate to Zone 7 for 4 years, Alternate to the Lancaster County Firemen's Association for 2 years, and Alternate to the State for 8 years. Gone to Glory, Chaplain Carr— Forever in Our Hearts. “ Jimmy worked at the former Country Table Restaurant, where both diners and coworkers enjoyed his company. He was also active with the Mount Joy Jaycees and the Memorial Day Carnival Committee. Jimmy had a passion for baseball. He could name any World Series winner from any year, along with who played, who won, and how many games it took. Even the most devoted baseball fans were often stumped when they tried to test his knowledge. Likewise, with NFL Super Bowls. He also was an avid Hershey Bears Hockey fan and he enjoyed their success, especially the back-to-back Calder Cups! Jimmy also knew amazing detail about the trains and train lines of Pennsylvania and any shopping trip with Jimmy was sure to include Iced Tea and Tastykake’s. Jimmy faced many challenges in his life, but he never gave up. He was a committed Christian who openly shared his faith. Since he was never able to drive, Jimmy depended on friends for help with his weekly and monthly routines. The kindness and support of the Mount Joy community meant a great deal to him. Jimmy always appreciated the generosity and care that so many provided. Jimmy attended many churches in Mount Joy, including St. Mark's, Mount Joy Church of God, Florin BIC, Mount Joy Mennonite, and, most recently, was a beloved founding member of Proclamation Presbyterian Church at Kraybill School. Throughout his life, he glorified his Savior and honored the Word of the Lord. He treasured every Christmas Eve spent with friends, and always proclaimed his relationship with God and the Lord Jesus. He is at home with the Lord. AMEN and PLAY BALL! Jimmy's presence, his prayers, and his gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was truly a servant of this department and this Community. A Fireman’s Funeral and Service of Resurrection Hope for Jimmy will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Proclamation Presbyterian Church, 598 Kraybill Church Rd, Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, at 3 pm.
