    Reverend James D. Corbett

    May 3, 1941 - April 7, 2017

    Reverend James D. Corbett, 75, of Mount Gretna, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles and Elva (Withers) Corbett. Jim was the husband of Shirley (Hassinger) Corbett with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage this past July 14th. Jim was a graduate of McCaskey High School, Lebanon Valley College, United Theology Seminary and Lancaster Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1966 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church and served the following parishes:  Killinger/Reigles EUB, Cressona/Landingville EUB, Parkside Parish EUB in Dayton, OH, Otterbein EUB, Halifax, First UMC Shamokin, Hempfield UMC, Drexel Hill UMC, St. Mark's UMC Mount Joy and St. Paul's UMC Elizabethtown. From 1985 to 1991 he served as District Superintendent of the Lebanon-Reading District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church and was a past President and Board Member of the Pennsylvania Chautauqua, Mount Gretna. Jim enjoyed traveling and covered a good portion of the United States and six continents. Surviving in addition to his wife Shirley, are two children, Susan Simonton of Eugene, OR and Matthew Corbett of Palmyra as well as two grandchildren, Sarah Simonton, wife of Komeil Nasrollahi of Exton and Lydia Simonton of Eugene, OR. A memorial service honoring the Reverend James D. Corbett will be held at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, 398 North Locust Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11 AM. Family and friends will be received at the church before the service from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church (address above) or the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) c/o St. Paul's United Methodist Church (address above).
