    Laura Weaver Wagner Carpenter

    February 28, 1927 - March 28, 2017

    Laura Carpenter, 90, formerly of Mount Joy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. She resided at Pleasant View Retirement Community. She was the daughter of the late Aaron & Lydia (Martin) Weaver. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Carpenter with whom she celebrated 21 years of marriage last October. Her first husband, Paul Wagner, died in 1994. They had been married for 46 years. Laura was a homemaker for many years on the family farm in Washington Boro. She also worked at Donegal Industries as a seamstress for over 25 years. Laura enjoyed spending time with Stanley at their second home in McAlisterville. She enjoyed knitting hats, camping and spending annual winters in Sarasota, FL. She volunteered for many years at the Country Gift & Thrift in Mount Joy. She was a member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church and had previously attended Chestnut Hill Mennonite Church for many years. Besides her husband, she is survived by her two sons: J. Lester Wagner (Cheryl) of Ephrata and Palm Desert (CA) and J. Mark Wagner (Leone) of Lititz. Laura is survived by 5 grandchildren: Lyndell (Bruce) Thiessen of Akron; Angela (Ben) Moita of Bloomington, MN; Kyle (Amy) Wagner of Lititz; Erin (Adam) Gingerich of Woodburn, OR; and Andrew (Alie) Wagner of Manheim, as well as 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 5 stepchildren: John (Mary) Carpenter of Landisville; Joyce (Ken) Frey of Mount Joy; Mary Jane (Bill) Sensenig of Stevens, Jay (Ruth) Carpenter of Lancaster; and James (Arlene) Carpenter of Lancaster, as well as 13 step-grandchildren and 26 step-great-grandchildren. Laura is survived by one brother, Paul M. Weaver, Lititz and four sisters, Mabel (Ephraim) Hernley, Ephrata; Miriam Nauman, Homestead, FL; Esther Nissley, Mifflinburg; and Reba (John) Wissler, Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a brother Harlan Weaver and a sister Anna Keperling. A Funeral Service honoring Laura's life will be held at Pleasant View Retirement Community Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Family and friends will be received at Hoffer Auditorium from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. Interment will be private. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to Mennonite Central Committee, P.O.
