Herbert B. Shelly, 86, originally of Maytown, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster. Born in East Donegal Township, he was the son of the late Engle and Anna (Brubaker) Shelly. He was the loving husband and best friend of Jane (Landis) Shelly for 62 years. After serving honorably in the U.S. Navy, Herb used his mechanical skills as a machinist and maintenance mechanic, working most of his career for Armstrong World Industries at its Marietta Ceiling Plant. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, rooting for his beloved Philadelphia Phillies, tending his fish pond, and playing cards with his family. He was a member of Donegal Presbyterian Church and, later, First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge #286 in Columbia. He was a member of the East Donegal Township Parks Commission for many years, helping to shape outdoor recreation in his community. Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Randy Shelly, married to Sharon Shelly, of Marsteller, PA and Kathi (Shelly) Workman, married to Jim Workman, of Mt. Lebanon, PA; three grandchildren, Riley, Scott, and Conner Workman; and a sister, Ruth (Shelly) Wingert. His other siblings, Lester Shelly, Miriam (Shelly) Byers, and Harold Shelly preceded him in death. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Sheetz Funeral Home, Inc., 16 E. Main St., Mount Joy on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at Acorn Farms Reception and Conference Center, 3141 Mount Joy Road, Mount Joy. Herb's family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 am. Interment will be private in the Landis Family Cemetery, East Donegal Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St, Lancaster 17602 or Mennonite Home Benevolent Care Fund, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster 17601.
