    Frederick A. Hansen

    June 4, 1946 - August 29, 2021

    Frederick “Rick” Allan Hansen, 75, of Elizabethtown, entered into rest with his Lord on August 29, 2021, at Masonic Village Health Care Center, Elizabethtown, PA. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn C.E. Varnum. and the son of the late Frederick Franz Hansen and Wanda Edwina Tucker Hansen. Rick grew up in King of Prussia and graduated from Upper Merion High School in 1964. He earned an associate degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Penn State University. He owned Hansen Nurseries in Sassamansville, Pennsylvania from 1985 to 2012. Hansen Nurseries was a wholesale grower of field and container nursery stock on 317 acres. Rick was active in the PLNA- Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association. He was PLNA’s President 1996-97and Nursery Man of the Year/Hall of Fame in 2001. He received the Frederick J. Mummert Award in 2007, the highest membership award. Hansen Nurseries earned the Green Industry Leader’s People Choice Award in 2007. Rick beautified others’ world by his skill in growing quality nursery plants and trees. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict as an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Army. He received several military medals including a Bronze Star. Rick was a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason honoring the core value of Freemasonry. He served as Worshipful Master of Mount Pickering Lodge #446 in 2005 And Boyertown Lodge #741 in 2014 and maintained his membership in Lodge #741. He belonged to The National Sojourners, Inc., Harrisburg Chapter #76. Rick enjoyed sailing, skiing, deep-sea fishing, beekeeping, his dogs Heidi and Dandi, coin collecting, ballroom dancing, hiking in National Parks, visiting State Capitals, going to church, and spending time with family and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife; his children: Emily Hansen Cooper, Cheryl E. (Klaus) Roessler, and Ross A. (Lauren) Hansen; his stepchildren Bryan T. (Nicole) Gernert and Brent F. (Marina) Gernert. He will be missed by his nine grandchildren; two sisters, Martha A. (Joseph) Powers and Nancy S. M. Heath; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Ronald Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. Reception to be held at 12:30 PM at Freemason Cultural Center (Salon 4), 72 Freemason Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Mask required, please. A private Masonic burial will be held at Valley Forge Memorial Garden, 325 S. Gulph Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406 with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pennsylvania Landscaping and Nursery Association, 908 N. 2nd Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102; Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown, Pa 17022; or Masonic Villages, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022
