Eileen Agnes Ferguson

Eileen Agnes Driscoll Ferguson passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born in beautiful Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the second child of Jean and Malcolm Driscoll. As the oldest girl of eight, she learned to enjoy taking charge and has given orders ever since. She loved her siblings, Tim, Kath, Jean, Mare, Malc, Rosie, and Joe. At St. Peter’s High School, she was the cheerleader with the glasses. She loved math. She left for St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse, then proudly joined the staff of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. For ever after, within three minutes of meeting someone she’d find a reason to say “Well, you know, I’m a nurse.” She met Frank Ferguson at Kelly’s bar, and he met all the requirements on her checklist: 1. Decent Job, 2. Goes to Mass. They were married on March 26, 1966, in New York. They had three children, Michael, Aimee, and Jack, and nearly thirty years together, before Frank passed on January 28, 1995. They eventually settled in tiny Maytown, PA, where Eileen was a good neighbor to Sue and Joe Huntzinger and later Maureen and Scott Albert. She was always energetic and determined, even pulling out the long ladder to paint the exterior of her home herself. Eileen loved parades and spectacles of all sorts: fireworks, fly-overs, school plays, music recitals, and the Philadelphia Flower Show. When her beloved mother, Jean Driscoll, turned 90, Eileen’s idea of an appropriate gift was a king-size bag of M&Ms delivered by a guy parachuting into the backyard. She was active, and passionate, especially when it came to her beloved Notre Dame football, or knitting Christmas stockings for her family. She loved a day out with her grandkids. Ideally, it would include a historic site, a tower to climb with a view from the top, a junk food lunch, and a trip to the gift shop. Eileen was not one to say “I love you,” and was decidedly not a hugger. She did not want to talk about your feelings. She did, however, want to cook a turkey dinner for your whole family, put it in a cooler, drive it to your house two hours away on a weeknight, sleepover, and spend her day off on her hands and knees pulling carpet staples out of the floor. She answered yes to everything. Yes, she will babysit! Yes, she’d love a gin and tonic! Even at the end of her life, suffering from cancer, Yes, she’s comfortable! She is predeceased by her husband, Frank, her parents, Malcolm and Jean, and by siblings, Tim, Kath, Mare, and Rosie. She is survived by her sister Jean Marie Lindberg, brothers Malcolm (Linda) and Joe (Pam), and by her three children Michael (Agnes), Aimee (Todd Margasak), and Jack (Loretta). She is also survived by - how long have you got? 20 grandchildren, 3 great-granddaughters, and countless nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by many past nursing colleagues, especially her “Ladies’ Lunch” friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eileen’s name to the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia, where she was a long-time volunteer and supporter, 88 Pennsylvania Ave, Oreland, PA 19075. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St, Columbia, PA 17512 on Saturday morning, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM with the Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow.
