James "Jim" Barrie Price

Obituary

               James “Jim” Barrie Price, 83, of Mount Joy, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Laidig, PA, he was the son of the late Lloyd J. and Freda I. (Shaw) Price. Jim was the husband of Patricia A. (Gilmartin) Price of 42 years.

               Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School class of 1953 and later Shippensburg State College in 1958. Jim started his career at the Pennsylvania National Insurance Company in Mechanicsburg until his move to Lancaster County in 1969.  He then worked for Donegal Mutual Insurance Company until his retirement in 2001 as Senior V.P. of Claims.  Jim was a member of Mary Mother of the Church Parish in Mount Joy. He was a former member of Marietta Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Mechanicsburg Jaycees. As a loyal Penn State Football fan, he was a season ticket holder since 1997. He enjoyed watching Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles games. An avid reader, Jim also enjoyed playing shuffleboard in the Messiah Country Homes leagues and cherished the many new friendships he made there. Spending time with his family especially his grandchildren was most important to Jim.

               Surviving in addition to his wife, Patricia, are two children, Barrie Ayars of Mechanicsburg and Brad Price, husband of Lamm of MI; two stepsons, Michael Zito, husband of Christy of Mount Joy and Matthew Zito, companion of Gina of Elizabethtown; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a stepson, Joseph Zito; a brother, Donald Price; and a sister, Irene Peiffer.

               A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 625 Union School Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 on Friday, January 10, 2020, at 11 AM. Family and friends will be received at the church before the service from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. Interment will follow at Maytown Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Mother of the Church Parish, address above.
