Jerry L. Avers Sr.

Jerry L. Avers Sr., 76, of Mount Joy, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at his residence. Born in Keyser, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Junior and Wanda (Lantz) Avers. Jerry was the husband of Della (Tranum) Avers, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage this past April. Jerry graduated from Keyser High School with Della in 1968. Jerry was active with MJAA, coaching both of his children. He was a member of the Mount Joy VFW, Mount Joy Legion (Sons), Dela Ches Fishing Association, and the Elizabethtown Moose. He worked at NCR in Mount Joy for 30+ years until its closure. He also worked at QVC in Lancaster until its closing. Jerry enjoyed hunting with his brother, watching sports, socializing and being with his wife. Della and Jerry settled into watching the Phillies, Wheel of Fortune, and Days of Our Lives. Jerry loved Al Bundy! He was an avid West Virginia fan and a good sport when he lost their annual wishbone competition with his daughter every Thanksgiving. He was tickled pink in 2024 when he won. He enjoyed spending time with his son, sharing stories and stats about any sport. His greatest joys were his children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife, Della, he has two children. Daughter, Melinda, wife of Jason Karns of Dillsburg (26 years). A son, Jerry Avers Jr, husband of Hannah Avers of Mountville (25 years). Three granddaughters, Karli Karns, Tori Karns and Elliana Avers. Two grandsons, Asher and Ezra Avers. A brother, Dennis Avers, husband of Gwen Avers of Mount Joy, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Wanda (Lantz) Avers, his paternal grandparents, George Wanamaker Avers and Cloria Avers, his maternal grandparents, Robert Lantz and Lena M. (Gank) Lantz, two brothers, Douglas and James Avers, and a sister, Carol Daugherty. In accordance with Jerry and Della’s wishes, no public services will be held. Those wishing to honor Jerry’s memory are invited to do so in their own way. Jerry would not want us to be sad but to smile and laugh when we think of him. The family appreciates the kind thoughts and condolences of friends and loved ones. We find comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and has been received into the open arms of Jesus, where he has been restored for eternity.
