G. Millard Sherk

G. Millard Sherk, 101, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Jay A. and Katie G. (Stauffer) Sherk. Millard was the husband of the late Olga (Troyan) Sherk who passed away on November 22, 2008. Millard was a graduate of the former Mount Joy High School class of 1941. He later graduated from Penn State University in 1964 and New Jersey Psychiatric Institute to be a certified Psychiatric Tech. Millard retired in 1993 from D.M. Stoltzfus and Sons, Inc. as a manager of employee relations and mine safety. He previously worked for International Marketing, Inc. and Howmet Corp. Millard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Joy where he taught Sunday School. He was also a member, past president, and board member of Lancaster County Personnel Association and Lancaster County Industrial Safety Council. A charter board member of the Lancaster County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. He was the first president of the 125 voice Monmouth Civic Chorus and a member of Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. Millard was an avid reader and enjoyed music, singing in chorus and bands, and was a collector of classic CD’s. Millard is survived by six children, twins, Rhonda Lee married to Larry Groff and Sandra Lee married to Larry Johns, both of Manheim, Glenn W. married to Jane Enck Sherk of Mount Joy, James C. married to Kim Frey Sherk of Manheim, Donna C. Sherk of Carlisle, and David B. Sherk of Manheim; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a brother, Morris N. Sherk of Mechanicsburg; and two sisters, Anna R. married to John Kibler of Columbia and Mary Arlene Foster of OH. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jay E. Sherk and a sister in law, Janet Lehman Sherk. A funeral service honoring Millard’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Sheetz Funeral Home, Inc., 16 East Main Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552 at 11 AM. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home before the service from 10 AM to 11 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mount Joy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lancaster County Drug and Alcohol Comission, 150 North Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
