Rosemary S. Hickernell, 75, of 126 West Walnut Street, Marietta, died on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Hospice of Lancaster County. Rosemary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and friend to many whose lives she touched.
Rosemary and her husband Clayton “Hick” Hickernell were married on May 14th, 1954. Together they have a son, David S., married to Karen Hickernell of West Donegal Township. She will be deeply missed by her granddaughter Jessica M. Hickernell.
A 1949 graduate of the former Marietta High School, Rosemary retired from the former U.S. Aluminum Corp. of Marietta. She was a devoted member of Mary, Mother of the Church, Parish of Mount Joy where she attended Mass daily. She was also a Republican Committeewoman for the 2nd District in Marietta. Additional memberships include the Marietta Restoration Associates, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 466 Marietta, and the Elks BPOE Auxiliary #1074, Columbia.
Born in Middletown on September 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Conrad and Mary N. Ling Smith.
In addition to her husband, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Rosemary will be sadly missed by her sister Theresa, married to Joseph LoGalbo of Lancaster; brothers: Robert Smith of Marietta; David, married to Kathleen Smith of York; and sister-in-law Mary Smith also of Marietta. Her brother James Smith predeceased her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 12:00 noon from Mary, Mother of the Church, Parish, 625 Union School Rd., Mount Joy with Concelebrants The Reverend Paul T. Rindos and the Reverend David L. Danneker. Final Commendation and Farewell in the Henry Eberle Cemetery, Mount Joy. Rosemary’s family will receive friends at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish on Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM and again at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 AM until the time of the Mass.
