Josephine E. Reitz, 92, of Rheems Nursing Center passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Her husband Albert E. Reitz passed away in 1985.
A florist, Jo and her husband owned Reitz Flower Shop in Lancaster for almost 30 years, retiring in 1973. An active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Mount Joy, she contributed scriptural stories to the monthly newsletter, participated in mission and church projects, and enjoyed visiting and teaching. Previously Jo worshiped at Pearl Street U. M. Church, Lancaster where she organized the Pearl Street Methodist Church Widow’s Support Group and earlier in her life was a Junior Church Leader at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Involved in her community Jo served as a volunteer for LARC and St. Anne’s Retirement Community, and was active in Church Women United, Lancaster Co. Council of Churches, Lumina, and the Blind Assoc. Auxiliary. She had a deep Christian faith and was devoted to God, her Church, her family and loved to crochet.
Born in Kane, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arvid and Cora Mohney Anderson and graduated from Brookville High School.
Jo will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Cora Lynn (James) Gingrich of Manheim and Sheryl (Gary) Brinkman of Conestoga; two stepsons, Donald Reitz, Burgaw, NC and Richard Reitz, Bel Air, MD; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister Beverly Goodwill, Emerickville and a brother, Clarence Anderson, Brockway.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Jo will be held at St. Mark’s U. M. Church, (please use rear entrance) 37 E. Main St., Mount Joy on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2011 at 4 pm. Jo’s family will greet everyone following the service in Fellowship Hall. Burial was private in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Jo’s name may be made to St. Mark’s U.M.
