Werner L. Tollefsbol, 89, of Mount Joy passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. He was the beloved husband of Valerie E. Jones Tollefsbol.
A mechanical engineer, Werner worked for the former Graphic Controls Corp., Cherry Hill, NJ, retiring in 1987. Previously, he was employed by Mc Neil Laboratories and Smith and French Pharmaceuticals, both in the Philadelphia area. During retirement Werner worked part-time for Manheim Auto Auction until 2007. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Oslo, Norway and attended Temple University in Philadelphia. Werner was a member of the Norwegian Underground Resistance during World War II and later served in the Norwegian Merchant Marines as Chief Electrician. Earlier in his life, he built and raced his own car and also enjoyed riding motorcycle. A people person, Werner spoke five languages fluently and loved to read, especially Amish and Mennonite books. He also enjoyed playing the organ and woodworking, making very detailed carousels.
Born in Oslo, Norway, he was the son of the late Olaf and Esther Petersen Tollefsbol.
In addition to his wife, Werner is survived by two daughters, Liz married to Rocky Sorino, Medford, NJ and Kristin married to Larry Butts, II Lakehurst, NJ; three grandsons, Andrew Sorino and Danny and Larry Butts, III; and relatives in Norway.
A Memorial Service honoring Werner’s life will be held at the Sheetz Funeral Home, 16 E. Main St., Mount Joy on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 3 pm. Werner’s family will visit with friends from 2:30 until 3pm and again after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
