Vernetta F. Wallander, 92, of Maytown, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital with her family by her side.
Vernetta was born in Philadelphia. She lived in Allentown, Cherry Hill, New Jersey and resided in Maytown for the last 51 years. She was a 50 year member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Maytown. Vernetta was also a member of the Maytown Historical Society and Farm Women’s Group of Lancaster County.
Vernetta was a graduate of Allentown General Hospital R.N. Nursing program in 1949 and worked in Allentown and Camden, New Jersey. After moving to Maytown, she worked at Columbia Hospital as third shift R.N. Supervisor. During retirement, Vernetta enjoyed sewing quilts plus other sewing projects that included quilts for the Lutheran World Relief Project, reading books and gardening.
Vernetta is survived by a son, Ernest H. Wallander, Jr. and daughter, Christina J. Wallander. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Wallander and son, Walter Leonard Wallander, II. Other surviving family members include 3 grandchildren, Ellen Heyd, Walter Leonard Wallander III and Michelle Wallander Woodward; 7 great grandchildren, Lindsey Heyd, Allison Wallander, Kaitlyn Heyd, Mason Wallander, Claire Woodward, and twins, Norah and Gail Woodward.
