Phyllis H. LandisMarch 31, 1931 ~ January 2, 2018 (age 86)
Phyllis Hoffman Landis 86, of Mount Joy passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, January 1, 2018. Phyllis was the devoted wife of John Marlin Landis who proceeded her in death. They were married for 63 years. Phyllis will be greatly missed by her children, Sheri (Robert) Golicher and Jesse (Patricia Landis) both of Mount Joy, Steve (Nancy Moberg) of Elizabethtown, and Philip (Susan Grosh) of Columbia. Her six grandchildren; Jason, Megan, Corey, Brianna, John and James Landis, and great granddaughter Erika (Jason and Katie) will all miss their grandmother who adored each one of them.
Growing up as the youngest sibling on the family farm in Mount Joy, Phyllis learned strong family values and throughout her life was a devout Christian holding church affiliation as lifelong service to her Lord Jesus Christ. She idolized her older brothers and sister. She graduated from the Mount Joy High School and was involved in many school functions. She and her husband John made many trips to visit family in and out of town. Her brothers and sister played a large part in her life. These family values were passed to her children. Phyllis was a dedicated mother, she was active in Glossbrenner Church, worked many years at the voting polls in Florin, and supported her children and grandchildren in their various sports, school, club and eventual college endeavors. She drove for Lancaster Limousine Service for about 20 years and most recently volunteered at the Gift & Thrift and the Mount Joy Historical Society. Phyllis greatly enjoyed cooking and baking and passed those loves and skills to her children, spouses and grandchildren. Some of the fondest family memories were in the preparation of family holiday dinners and Christmas cookie baking. She always seemed to have homemade soup made from her garden vegetables to share, or any number of baked goods. Together, John and Phyllis were seasoned travelers, having visited over 54 countries and all 50 states. They were dedicated members of Donegal Presbyterian Church and appreciated friends in the Leisure Club and later card club. Most importantly, her lasting love and support for her family exceeded all aspects of her life.
Born in Mount Joy in 1931, she was the daughter of Roy and Mabel Hoffman, and proceeded in death by brothers Robert (Ruth), Richard (Mary Ellen), Clayton (Marion), and sister Hazel (John Zeller).
A memorial Service honoring Phyllis’ life, officiated by The Reverend Mathew Randolph will be held at the Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1819 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, Pa on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11AM. Phyllis’ family will receive friends at 10AM proceeding the service and immediately following the service at Acorn Farms Reception and Conference Center, 3141 Mount Joy Road, Mount Joy, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Donegal Presbyterian “Capital Fund Raising” fund, or the Mount Joy Historical Society would be deeply appreciated.
