Jane E. Shelly, 81, originally of Maytown, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster. She was the wife of the late Herbert Shelly for 62 years. She is survived by two children, Randy (Sharon Noel) Shelly of Marsteller, PA and Kathi Shelly (Jim) Workman of Mt. Lebanon, PA; and three grandchildren, Riley, Scott, and Conner Workman.
A 1953 graduate of the former East Donegal Township High School, she attended Millersville State Teachers College before her marriage in June, 1954. Over the years, Jane worked at AMP, Inc., in Mount Joy, and J.C. Penney and Clover in Lancaster. An avid gardener, Jane spent hours tending her flower gardens in Maytown and later at Woodcrest Villa. She was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club of Lancaster. Jane was a voracious reader of mystery novels, and also enjoyed sewing, making crafts, playing games, and shopping with her beloved sisters.
Jane was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster and a former member of Donegal Presbyterian Church.
Born in East Donegal Township, she was the daughter of the late Phares and Ruth (Walmer) Landis. She is survived by a sister Joanne (Harold) Krall, a brother, Dennis (Ann Barry) Landis, and sisters-in-law Phyllis Landis, Ruth Wingert, and Jean Shelly. Two siblings, John Landis and Jeanette Landis Nissly, preceded her in death.
A memorial service honoring Jane’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1891 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, when the spring flowers are in bloom. Jane’s family will receive friends from 10–11 a.m. Interment will be at the Landis family cemetery, East Donegal Township.
