Betsy Bigler Lambert of Lancaster died peacefully Friday, July 21, 2017 aged 89 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim where she had been a resident for several months. She was the wife of Richard A. Lambert, currently residing at St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia. Born December 3, 1927 to Blanche Kauffman Bigler and Alvin Bard Bigler, Betsy grew up in Mount Joy. After graduating Mount Joy High School Betsy attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA for two years. There she was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Delta. Upon her return to Lancaster she began working for Armstrong Cork Company as a secretary. She married Richard Lambert in 1956 and they had three children, Jordan, Amy and Kevin. Over the years Betsy was actively involved in Wheatland Sertoma and Meals-on-Wheels and she was a demon at the bridge table. She retired from Armstrong in 1989. She served two terms as Judge of Elections in Manheim Township. She participated in the choir and served as secretary of the vestry at St Thomas Episcopal Church where she was a long-time member. Mrs. Lambert is survived by her husband of 61 years as well as their three children: Jordan Lambert (wife Karen Feldt), Amy Ditzler (husband Steve Ditzler) and Kevin Lambert, all of Lancaster. Also surviving her are her only sister Bonnie Boyer (husband Jack Boyer), as well as two grandchildren: Theodore Schell-Lambert (wife Zoe Vanderveer) and Rachel Schell-Lambert, both of New Orleans; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Road, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to either the Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center, 625 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603 or Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N Penryn Rd, Manheim, PA 17545.
